The committee has a dual function with oversight of and responsibility for both the internal EDI practice of Advance HE and the integration of EDI within Advance HE’s products and services. This includes the effective operation and strategic development of both Athena Swan and the Race Equality Charter.

Professor Parveen Yaqoob
Board Member and Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
Parveen is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at the University of Reading, with leadership across a broad portfolio of activity. She is responsible for implementing the research strategy, fostering a positive research culture and delivering on research-based key performance indicators, and she has played a significant role on national and international research funding panels, particularly in the area of nutrition and health.
Professor Chantal Davies
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
Chantal is now professor of Law, Equality and Diversity in the School of Law at the University of Chester. She has also developed and is Director of the Forum for Research into Equality and Diversity.
Annette Hay
Board Member and Member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
Annette has over 30 years of experience around leadership, with a particular interest in making leadership a more inclusive and authentic experience. She’s passionate about empowering and enabling women, and especially more Black women, to take up leadership and governance positions.
Professor Osama Khan

Professor Osama Khan has over 27 years of experience in higher education. He leads Aston’s academic strategy, driving inclusive, research-informed, and digitally enhanced education aligned with the University 2030 vision.
Professor Sara Mole
Member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
Sara is Envoy for Gender Equality at University College London (UCL). She has a research interest in Batten disease. She has used the Athena Swan Charter to further gender equality in her department, being awarded the first Silver (2009) and first Gold (2016) awards at UCL, and now supports equality work at institutional level.
Pradeep Passi
Member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
Pradeep is at Salford University as Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion). He chairs the university’s EDI Taskforce and is also Director of the Global Race Centre for Equality, focussing on trans-disciplinary research in relation to racial inequalities.
Professor David Mba
Member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee
Professor David Mba joined Birmingham City University in October 2023 as Vice-Chancellor (VC). David’s role is to lead and develop the strategic vision and aspirations of the University. David has led the development of the University’s Strategy for 2030 and Beyond and works with the University Executive Team to ensure the delivery of its strategic ambitions.
