This pioneering team had a vision to create an interprofessional global community of educators. The team successfully integrated various areas of expertise to develop and deliver a highly successful online Medical and Health Education programme, with course participants drawn from across the world. Members of the team hold educational qualifications alongside qualifications relating to their professional disciplines.
Their secret to collaborative excellence lies within flexible, adaptable and authentic leadership approaches modelled by the team leaders, which enables members to transcend traditional discipline boundaries to deliver transformative education to participants worldwide.
The ability of team members to occupy this ‘third space’ is a credit to the course as team members understand first-hand the challenges and opportunities available to their learners as they seek to educate and upskill their own workforces. Their unique approach to delivering healthcare education is highly effective across professional, disciplinary and geographical boundaries to deliver education that is transformative. Despite being a small team, they have been impactful on the global stage.
Incremental changes to the programme since inception have enhanced participant outcomes and have had significant impact at departmental, institutional, regional, national and international levels. For example, participant completion rates have increased (89%-97%) and pass rates are consistently above 92% across all units. Online delivery templates designed by the team are now used across four other UG and PG programmes. Their clear and consistent approach to assessment design, marking and moderation processes, co-created, interactive induction seminars and bespoke study skills packages have also been adopted in over 13 other programmes across the University’s Transnational Education portfolio.
The team believes teaching and learning transcends boundaries and thus takes a proactive approach to inclusivity and innovation, promoting exposure to other cultures and disciplines in creating a global community of educators.
