Webinar: Using the Framework for Enhancing Assessment

On 4 December 2024, we heard from speakers from institutions around the globe who have developed innovative and effective approaches to assessment and feedback. Presenters provided practical advice and guidance to using the Framework for Enhancing Assessment to support student success at your institution.

Over two sessions, host Vic Stephenson, Senior Consultant (Education) at Advance HE was joined by ten academics discussing how the Framework for Enhancing Assessment can support successful student outcomes by:

  • developing strategies, policies and practices which put students at the core;
  • embedding effective staff training and development;
  • innovating assessment design to ensure it is inclusive and future-focused.

Vic is a Senior Consultant at Advance HE, designing and delivering support and training on inclusive pedagogy approaches and leading a range of collaborative projects to enhance quality, student experience and outcomes. She has over 25 years of experience in education as a teacher, teacher trainer, academic manager and assessment specialist. Vic’s main interests are in international education, inclusive curricula and assessment design and technology-enhanced learning.

Assoc. Prof Dr Lydia Foong has 33 years of extensive experience in various educational settings. She is currently the Director, Curriculum & Educational Development at the Centre for Future Learning, Taylor’s University in Malaysia. She was formerly the founding Dean of the Faculty of Education, Languages and Psychology, and Director of Confucius Institute at SEGi University in Malaysia. She has served as the secretary of the Professional Development Board, ECCE Council Malaysia, and an Executive Committee member of the National Association of Early Childhood Education Malaysia.

Robert Mantho
Robert Mantho is an architect, teacher, and researcher. He has practised in N.Y.C., London, Portland, and Vermont, working on a wide range of building projects and competitions. He has taught and lectured widely and is currently the Stage 5 leader at the Mackintosh School of Architecture. His research is focused on exploring spatial definition, digital processes in the generation of space and urban analysis. This research has been presented in Europe, the U.K. and North America.

Dr Derek Dodd is an academic developer on the Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) Team in Technological University Dublin. He has a PhD in Higher Education Policy from the University of Plymouth and a background in the humanities, having worked as a lecturer, programme coordinator, and learning development officer in a number of Irish HEIs. His current responsibilities include designing and teaching CPDs for TU Dublin lecturers, coordinating the University’s authentic assessment Community of Practice, and developing Gen AI ethics and readiness resources for learners.

Dr Sam Saunders is an Educational Developer in the Centre for Innovation in Education at the University of Liverpool. His research interests are in assessment and feedback practices; decolonisation of authentic pedagogy; perceptions and incorporation of Generative AI into the curriculum; and curriculum design, and he has recently presented research on decolonisation of authenticity at the 2024 Assessment in Higher Education conference in Manchester. Sam also has a background in nineteenth-century literature and culture and writes on Victorian print culture and crime fiction, and is a Senior AdvanceHE Fellow (SFHEA).
