Advance HE, City St George's, University of London and the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) have collaborated to create this resource to benefit the wider higher education sector.
Drawing on the lived experience of the City St George's merger and Advance HE's sector-wide expertise, this report, similar insights reports about the merger of the Health Sciences University and Anglia Ruskin University, and a planned merger roadmap aim to address a key gap in UK higher education: practical guidance on navigating the complexities and opportunities of university mergers.
The report captures insights from key stakeholders across both legacy institutions. The Advance HE team brought together their expertise in governance, institutional cultures, systems thinking and change management to synthesise the merger journey and extract themes relevant to the sector. This insight report will sit alongside other Advance HE resources and contribute to a growing body of knowledge on leading large-scale change. It is intended to support institutions considering or undertaking similar transformations.
