Professor Raphael (Rafe) Hallett has been appointed to the role of Director of Teaching Excellence and Student Success. In this role, Rafe will be responsible for developing Advance HE’s flagship Higher Education Academy Fellowships and Accreditation Programme across the globe. He will lead the development of new member benefits and consultancy projects focussed on enhancing learning and teaching, student outcomes and success. His portfolio includes supporting members to drive educational excellence and promote innovation.
Rafe has held Director roles at three universities, leading educational strategy, innovation and enhancement. He has led projects internationally to help universities develop and diversify their portfolio, enhance staff capability and enrich the student experience.
At the University of Leeds, he led the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence. He was the Director of the Keele Institute for Innovation and Teaching Excellence and the cross-university Dean of Education. Currently he is Professor of Educational Innovation and the Director of Learning and Teaching at Middlesex University. He also holds a National Teaching Fellowship.
Rafe will start his new role at Advance HE in September 2026.
