Advance HE's Chief Executive, Alison Johns, met with Egypt's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Ayman Ashour, to discuss strengthening educational partnerships and supporting Egypt's higher education sector development. The meeting, held at the Ministry headquarters marks a significant step in reinforcing the collaborative relationship between Advance HE and Egyptian higher education institutions.
The meeting, which was also attended by Dr Mustafa Rifaat, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Universities, with Mark Howard, Director of the British Cultural Council, and Mrs. Shaima Al-Banna, Director Education, the British Council, focused on key priorities for Egypt's higher education sector, including promoting academic excellence, creating inclusive learning environments, and expanding international partnerships.
Discussions centred on supporting Egypt's ambition to become a regional hub for higher education excellence, with particular emphasis on cross-border education initiatives and research collaboration that delivers economic impact. The meeting also explored ways to enhance faculty development through strategic educational planning.

Advance HE will continue to provide expertise in leadership development, teaching excellence, and diversity and inclusion in higher education. The organisation will also support Egyptian academics in achieving global recognition through accreditation and Advance HE Fellowship.
Dr Ashour emphasized the importance of these international partnerships in achieving Egypt's National Strategic Goals for Higher Education and Scientific Research, aligning with Egypt Vision 2030. The collaboration aims to enhance the quality of education and research, ensuring Egyptian graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in local, regional, and international job markets.
During her visit, Alison Johns met with The British University of Egypt, where there are inspiring stories of the value of Fellowship and the Professional Standards framework - the key pillars to Advance HE's work to promote the reward and recognition of teaching.
This visit reinforces the historic educational ties between Egypt and the United Kingdom, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing higher education excellence through international cooperation.
