Advance HE is proud to publish its Strategy 2030 – ‘Working with you to transform higher education’. Following extensive consultation, the strategy comprises three core strategic priorities aligned with the needs of the sector.
Advance HE is proud to publish its Strategy 2030 – ‘Working with you to transform higher education.’
We undertook extensive engagement with our members to agree on three core strategic priorities aligned with the needs of the sector:
- Maximising membership impact and value
- Supporting leadership, management and governance development for transformational change
- Developing educational excellence for the higher education of the future.
These priorities are underpinned by three critical cross-cutting themes: sustaining progress in equity, diversity and inclusion; embedding sustainability; and building capability for technology-enabled excellence and efficiency.
Alison Johns, Chief Executive of Advance HE, said: “This strategy has been shaped through extensive consultation with our global membership community, reflecting the real-world challenges and opportunities facing higher education today.
“Our members have been clear, ‘the road’ to 2030 requires transformational change. They’ve asked us to build on our established work in teaching excellence, leadership development, governance, and equity frameworks, while supporting them to do different things and to do things differently as they prepare for future success. The cross-cutting themes of inclusion, sustainability, and technology-enabled excellence are fundamental to creating a thriving future for higher education.”
Five key commitments underpin the strategy’s delivery: keeping members at the centre of Advance HE’s work; seeking partnerships and collaborations; convening and connecting members to share global perspectives; ensuring contextualised and pragmatic approaches; and working from a credible evidence base.
Advance HE will work with its members to provide foresight and practical tools across leadership, governance, teaching and learning, and equity and inclusion, while supporting institutions to adapt to technological changes and meet evolving expectations from students, employers, governments, funders and the global HE community.
Chair of the Advance HE Board and President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton, Professor Mark E Smith, said, “This new strategy, with its clear direction, is characterised by an unequivocal commitment to work in partnership with members and the wider sector. This is really important in maintaining relevance, value and the agility to work with members in a fast-changing and demanding sector.
“Underpinning the strategy are our strong values of Impact, Inclusivity and Integrity and Advance HE’s vision of higher education providers and systems that are inclusive, sustainable, and high performing. The Board strongly endorses this ambitious strategy and looks forward to working with the Executive team as it fulfils these strategic priorities and commitments.”
The strategy also outlines Advance HE’s internal commitments to enhance its operations, including investing in employee development, improving systems efficiency, evolving financial strategies, and deploying technology effectively.
The strategy builds on Advance HE’s strong foundation in professional development and recognition, including its globally recognised Fellowship scheme with almost 200,000 Fellows worldwide, and its equality charters such as Athena Swan, which now operates in nine countries, and the Race Equality Charter. The organisation’s influence extends through successful leadership programmes like Aurora, which has supported over 13,000 women in leadership development, and the Top Management Programme, which has delivered 53 cohorts over 24 years, many of whose participants are now leading sector institutions.
