Lis Bundock is Academic Subject Lead for Secondary, Further Education and Skills, and Employment-Based Routes at the University of Brighton. She provides strategic oversight of postgraduate and undergraduate Initial Teacher Education courses, supporting over 400 trainees annually. Her role includes curriculum development, quality assurance, and enhancing student experience across routes. Lis has a strong track record designing inclusive pathways and ensuring provision meets diverse learner and partner needs.
She has led nationally significant ITE programmes, including the University’s Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship and the DfE-funded Troops to Teachers initiative. In 2024/25, she co-led the design and delivery of a national pilot for the first undergraduate Teacher Degree Apprenticeship in Secondary Mathematics. This work secured significant funding and influenced national discussions on equity in teacher recruitment.
Lis’s practice is grounded in social justice and inclusive education. In 2015, she founded the LGBTQ+ Trainee Teacher Affinity Group, supporting over 100 trainees and informing inclusion strategies. Her doctoral research explores experiences of gender diverse teachers using feminist new materialist theory and post-qualitative methodologies. These insights have shaped curriculum and placement design and contribute to guidance through collaborations with local authorities and the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers.
She supports professional learning and sector development. Lis has co-authored work with trainee teachers, contributed to a guide on LGBTQ+ research, and led a staff webinar series on inclusive blended learning. In 2025, she co-led the University of Brighton ‘Difference Makes a Difference’ conference, funded by the Office for Students, focused on removing barriers for underrepresented groups. She sits on the board of the University’s Centre for Transforming Gender and Sexuality, contributing to research and advocacy.
