Job Title:Director of Small Group Learning, Professionalism and Social Engagement
Institution: Plymouth University
Year: 2016
Professor Hilary Neve recognised the profound impact that education can have on the health of patients and communities whilst working as a volunteer doctor in Tanzania. This inspired her to make education an integral part of her career. She worked for seven years in GP education before joining the Peninsula Medical School in 2002. Hilarys passion, as a GP, for providing high quality ethical, equitable and patient-centred health care, underpins her educational work, along with a deep interest in pedagogic ideas and scholarship.

Year: 2016
Dr Jane Tobbell's career in Higher Education started in 1996 and since then she has worked full time in a number of universities as well as part-time for the Open University. Her inspiration for teaching emerges from relationships with students. Her research explores transition and learning in educational institutions and has been published internationally.

Year: 2016
Giskin Day qualified originally as a botanist in South Africa, before working in science publishing and at the Science Museum in London. Committed to broadening the education of science students, she has been involved in humanities teaching to STEMM students at Imperial College for nearly two decades, chiefly in Science Communication and Medical Humanities.

Dr Gareth Thomson has been teaching in the HE sector for over 20 years, initially at Dundee University before joining Aston University around seven years ago where he is currently Head of the Mechanical Engineering & Design subject group.

Dr Frands Pedersen is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster, where he holds a University Teaching Fellowship. He has a track record of engaging with colleagues to share his leading practice in a supportive manner that enables them to develop their own work in the field. In doing so, he combines a passion for his discipline with a strong commitment to student learning.

Dr Frances Garrad-Cole was one of the very first Teaching and Scholarship lecturers at Bangor University. She has been a key figure in raising the profile of teaching excellence across the institution. As a Teaching and Learning Developer in the Centre for Enhanced Learning and Teaching, Fran holds one of only five prestigious posts designed to share and inspire excellent teaching and student support across the University.

Fiona Tweed is Professor of Physical Geography at Staffordshire University. She is an international expert on glacial outburst floods and natural hazards with over 25 years' experience of collaborative field research.

Professor Elizabeth Smart has a passion for the law and legal education; she was recognised as a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2015 and endeavours to create the best legal education possible, with a particular focus on clinical legal education, inspiring students academically and emotionally with the confidence to succeed.

After a degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Sunderland Polytechnic, Dr Dave Webster studied at the University of Newcastle for an MLitt, focusing on contemporary British Hinduism. He then returned to (what was then) the University of Sunderland, to undertake a PhD in Buddhist Philosophy. At that time, he began to teach - and found himself teaching undergraduates, adult education classes in philosophy and distance learners. He suddenly discovered that he loved to teach!

David Humphreys joined The Open University in 1995 where he is Professor of Environmental Policy, specialising in forestry. A committed environmentalist, he has written two books, the second of which - Logjam: Deforestation and the Crisis of Global Governance - won the International Studies Associations' Harold and Margaret Sprout Award of 2008.
