Leading Through Complexity is our new offer for TMP alumni VCs and executive leaders, which brings together a series of workshop sessions and masterclasses based on what you have told us about your current priorities and challenges.
Using expert facilitators respected for their expertise in higher education, but also in navigating complexity and providing solutions, these sessions will provide a safe space opportunity for beneficial insight but with provocation and exploration of alternative approaches and solutions alongside peers.
Each workshop will also offer an optional added opportunity to extend engagement and support via coaching, action learning sets or sessions within the TMP network.
Masterclasses
Leading with Resilience (Date TBC)
Facilitator: Katy Murray
Leading institutions through the current complex operating environment of higher education requires energy, focus and resilience. This masterclass led by a highly experienced facilitator and author in the field of leadership resilience and well being will allow you to take a step back and see your institutions’ wellbeing from an individual leadership and collective systems perspective. Bringing fresh insight and energy into your leadership and institutional oversight through connection, wisdom and best practices from your peers, you’ll leave with a toolkit of resources and strategies that actually make a difference. You will generate a next steps insights and action plan to share with your leadership team and leave feeling enriched and energised.

Navigating Strategic Finance for Executive Leaders (Date TBC)
Facilitator: Phil McNaul
How universities are funded, determine their future financial and business planning approaches in line with strategy and drive best value has never been more under the spotlight or been more vital for institutional financial sustainability.
This masterclass brings together a multi faceted approach to equipping executive leaders via a facilitated module and action learning session help answer these questions, building on content delivered within TMP placed in the current financial context.
Aimed at those based in executive teams with responsibilities for financial planning and shared responsibility to plan, monitor and deliver institutional performance and led by Phil McNaul, previously at the University of Edinburgh this masterclass will provide leaders with the insight needed to effectively lead from a strategic finance perspective, able to collaboratively shape decision making with the right financial insights alongside those executive team peers such as the COO or Director of Finance and board members.

Influencing and Navigating Politics and HE Policy Making in Changing Times (Date TBC)

This interactive and practical Masterclass offers Vice-Chancellors (VCs) and executive leaders a valuable opportunity to engage with policy makers and implementation roles. Beyond the hustle of electoral campaigns, it's a moment for VCs to carve out time and space alongside other vital aspects of their roles. This includes fostering political connections and networks, a crucial avenue for institutional growth and influence.
The Masterclass provides a platform for VCs to gain practical ideas and approaches for engaging with politicians. It facilitates not only individual learning but also collective sharing of experiences among VC colleagues. Through quality thinking and discussion sessions, VCs can exchange insights and strategies that have proven successful in navigating the complex terrain of political engagement.

Reframing Strategy in ‘Polycrisis’ (Date TBC)
Facilitators: Professor Sir Chris Husbands and Professor Janice Kay CBE
Higher education leaders are navigating complex challenges which require intelligence, imagination, and determination.
All institutions have well-defined goals and corporate strategies, but both strategy and mission are now challenged by the range of underlying long-term and day-to-day decisions which need to be made. Leadership teams need to be mobilised in new ways.
This masterclass will provide practical guidance on navigating the gap between strategic purpose and operational challenge, to help identify where institutions need to transform, adapt and or hold steady and to build leadership capability to deliver success. Led by the hugely experienced team of Professor Chris Husbands, previously Vice-Chancellor at Sheffield Hallam University and Professor Janice Kay, previously Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Exeter this is an intensely practical masterclass focused on exploring implementable solutions.
