Institution at the time of Award: Plymouth University. Dr Helen King is currently Head of Academic Staff Development at the University of Bath where she leads a team supporting both teaching and researcher development. Her particular interests lie in linking teaching and research through professional development, and Disciplinary Thinking (ways of thinking and practising in the disciplines). The majority of Helen's career to date has been working on a UK-wide scale to support academic development in the disciplines.

Institution at the time of award: University of Sussex. Catherine Reynolds is a PhD/postdoctoral Career Consultant at the London School of Economics. At the time of her award in 2006, she was a Career Development Adviser in the Career Development and Employment Centre (CDEC) at the University of Sussex. She is well respected as a careers educator within the University and the higher education careers profession nationally. She has been teaching since 1986 in a number of settings including adult education and secondary schools.

Following 18 years' teaching in secondary education, Duncan Mackrill became PGCE Music Curriculum Tutor at the University of Sussex. He achieved a University Teaching Award in 2004 for his work in music education after only five years' teaching part time in HE, followed by the National Teaching Fellowship in 2005. He is now a Senior Lecturer in Education and the PGCE Convenor at Sussex.

National Teaching Fellow 2005My background is as a Clinical Scientist working for the Public Health Laboratory Service, initially in a prestigious three year Grade A Clinical Scientist training post in microbiology. The broad training covered diagnostic, epidemiology and research methodology skills and experience, plus formal study towards an MSc Clinical Microbiology at the Royal London Hospital (awarded 1997). On completion of my training, I took on a three year Clinical Scientist research post, resulting in the award of a PhD by the University of Exeter in 2001 and then moved to a Grade B Clinical Scientist post based at the University of Bristol before joining the Peninsula Medical School in July 2002.
