The School protects time for new lecturers to establish independent research careers by minimising teaching and administrative duties (less than half load). They provide start-up Research Assistant support and PhD studentships, which have successfully encouraged the university to reduce the workload required for the mandatory lecturer training course (from 400 to 60 hours).
