The institution introduced the 'Future Research Leaders' programme, which offered monthly sessions over a one-year course to help develop researchers' leadership skills. Those who were unsuccessful could also be selected for the 'Leading Research Mentoring' programme. Since the launch of both programmes in 2013 a number of staff members, of whom approximately half are women and a third are of a BAME background, have successfully completed the programme.
