The Department has an active outreach program to encourage applications from all genders and backgrounds. In the academic year 2016-17, they delivered 40 outreach activities, reaching around 12,000 people. Staffing at these activities was 58% female. This has resulted in increasing the ratio of female students from 41% in 2014 to over 50%, while the Master's intake has increased to 42%, and female postgraduate research student enrolment has increased to 41%. There has been a jump in female undergraduate applications and acceptances for 2018-19 entry – female students made up 52% of our applicants, 54% of our offer holders and 53% of our expected students.
