To increase the proportion of female academics that are appointed at junior level, the following initiatives were adopted: personally identifying and contacting potential female applicants; compulsory unconscious bias training for shortlisters and interviewers; the use of gender neutral language in communications and adverts; and taking into account known under-claiming of competencies in female applications through the shortlisting process. These initiatives have helped increase the proportion of newly appointed academics who are female.
