The institution offered various development opportunities, including: STELLAR HE and the BAME Promotion Workshops; higher representation of BAME academics at academic promotion workshops and’ Enabling Women through the Promotions Process' workshop. Compared to the College proportion, there was a sharp increase in appraisal completion due to more stringent monitoring; a review/revision of appraisal and promotion processes (e.g. they now include career conversation in appraisal as standard for all, anonymising promotion applications and removing of departmental ‘gate-keeping’). As a result, 77.8% of the BAME cohort on the 'Enabling Women through the Promotions Process' workshop were subsequently promoted to Reader/Professor; there was an overall increase in the success rate for BAME promotion applicants and the percentage difference in success rates between BAME and non-BAME promotion applicants has decreased year-on-year. This has translated into an increase in the academic pipeline from Grade 8 to 9 and promotion to Professorship.
