The aim of this session is to present findings from a two-stage mixed-methods sequential study to explore whether and how students’ cultural competence developed following an overseas exchange to Japan. The objectives of the session are to identify the activities that had a positive impact on the development of the students’ cultural competence; explore how content of future exchanges can be adapted to support the development of the students’ cultural competence and; discuss how the findings could be used to support learning and teaching strategies.
