Problem-based learning is a teaching practice that aims to provide an improved learning environment to facilitate the acquisition and retention of knowledge and skills. The majority of studies have shown that PBL inspires a greater degree of involvement in learning activities resulting in a higher level of comprehension and the ability to think critically. In this session I will describe how I have incorporated the principles of PBL into my teaching practice at three institutions in Canada Sweden and the UK. I will finish the session by providing some insight into implementing innovative learning strategies at a new institution.
