8.3: Students as active agents classrooms as spaces for dialogue and discussion. Towards an integrated

Art & Design

Jaygo Bloom, Winchester School of Art

This paper reports the findings of a single term research activity project focused on developing students’ understanding of learning outcomes through a structured intervention involving both tacit and explicit knowledge transfer methods. The nature of the intervention is explained in detail and the outcomes are evaluated alongside research of significance. The conclusions drawn from the evidence are that student understanding of the learning outcomes can be improved significantly through developing a platform that encourages open discussion and group activity and that this improvement may continue to inform student understanding over time and be transferable. This work has led to a secondary enquiry; examining staff roles within the process and how staff perception and attitude vary towards establishing an understanding of the learning outcome criteria within course delivery this enquiry is also summarised.
