The Stroke Association (2016) state that over 150 000 people are living with the effects of stroke in the UK often with life limiting disabilities. Time is brain in stroke and it is imperative that staff working in acute stroke management have the knowledge and skills to ensure best possible outcome for patients (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network 2008 RCP 2016). Stroke and TIA (Transient Ishaemic Attack) Assessment Training (STAT) was developed by the Stroke Team in NHS Northumbria and was shown to improve the knowledge and skills of learners (Garside et al 2011). STAT uses a mix of clinical simulation and presentation. Following a successful pilot of STAT in a partnership between NHS Lanarkshire and CHSS CHSS received funding from the Scottish Government to lead a national 3 year training project.
