Computer Assisted Assessment: How many questions are enough?

This paper addresses the issue of how many tests on average need to be generated before all available questions have appeared at least once. By means of probability theory and the use of a computer algebra package results are generated for a number of typical situations. Some surprising results are reported. The implications of these results with references to plagiarism are discussed. Recommendations on how to reduce the possibility of plagiarism are provided.
