Developing a sustainable model for fostering inter-cultural understanding and building cross-cultural capability through learning in multicultural communities

The Higher Education Academy in partnership with UKCISA funded twenty ‘Connections’ pilot projects in 2012 on the theme of internationalisation of learning and teaching. The projects aimed to make connections between different departments services and institutions and with local communities. They helped to support international students studying in the UK as well as encouraging UK students to take opportunities overseas and on their home campuses to be more internationally aware.

This project sought to address the question of how to develop intercultural understanding and cross-cultural capability amongst university students. It makes the case for trying to do this through ‘the development of a model for student learning in multicultural communities’.
