Heather Symonds presented this paper at the Higher Education Academy Annual Conference of 2008. The author examines the experience of students with dyslexia in delivering a viva voce in lieu of an extended piece of writing. Case studies are presented with audio extracts illustrating the impact of the assessment on student self esteem and emotional well being as a transformative process.
