Disasters and Hazards Exercise

Disasters are used in a student-based learning exercise to investigate their impact on civil engineering practice in order to identify hazards and to appreciate the responsibilities of engineers and other professionals. Students find this a welcome change from traditional teaching methods. It also helps to alleviate the 'collective amnesia' that has been criticised in the industry where engineers are unaware of the problems of previous generations.
