Embedding academic process and skills at London South Bank University - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

This presentation reports on a university-wide pilot that was run at London South Bank University designed to monitor the impact of embedding learning development (academic skills development) within discipline specific modules. 39 modules were involved including those specifically targeted with low pass rates or with cohorts from non-traditional pathways. The paper compares module results to previous years where support was not embedded and shows evidence that taking a targeted approach may substantially increase first attempt pass rates and hence have a positive impact on progression and retention. It also discusses how the embedded approach might be adapted for different disciplines.
