Employers’ appraisals tell you what they value in graduates Are you and your students using this resource?

Most employers use an appraisal process to develop promote and perhaps reward staff. New graduates recently employed by a company may be appraised as soon as 6 months after joining the company and thereafter at 6-monthly or annual intervals. The criteria and expectations incorporated in these appraisals clearly demonstrate what employers value in their new graduates and can be used to inform curriculum development by academic staff. In addition the material can be used by students to inform their career- and self- development activities while at university and to position themselves to be attractive to employers in an increasingly competitive global job market (ie. increase their employability).
