Ethnicity Gender and Degree Attainment Project

This report provides recommendations for higher education institutions (HEIs) and sector organisations for immediate practical action and further research into degree attainment variation between ethnicity and gender.

This project stemmed from the DfES report Ethnicity and Degree Attainment (January 2007) and explores causes and practical responses to degree attainment differentials relating to ethnicity and gender.  It worked with HEIs in England and Wales to: survey HEIs and carry out semi-structured interviews; search for equality policies and schemes across 61 English and Welsh HEIs; generate case studies; undertake a brief review of published literature; carry out a quantitative data analysis of HESA and NSS data; carry out qualitative data analysis from an expert panel of relevant academics and equality officers; run a one-day scoping conference.
