The Maths Stats & OR Network the London Mathematical Society the Institute of Mathematics & its Applications the Royal Statistical Society and the Heads of Departments of Mathematical Sciences (HoDoMS) have recently been approached by HEFCE to produce a fully costed business case for a strategy to increase the uptake of Mathematical Sciences and Mathematics related courses in Higher Education. Clearly there are already a number of activities currently in place that aim to achieve this however these tend to be aimed primarily at those in schools. Although this will remain a very important source for the recruitment of students there is a need to address others particularly to articulate with FE provision and to reach potentialwork-based learners.
