HELMs was the Leadership Foundation's most ambitious ever UK wide study of leadership. Our survey of nearly 1000 people working in higher education set out to uncover their feelings on topics from motivation, commitment and satisfaction to priorities for development, views on leadership style and work-life balance. The result is invaluable insights into what motivates staff, what good leadership looks like and the most pressing challenges that lie ahead for higher education institutions.
The responses to the open questions were so considered and detailed we commissioned three experts in leadership research and qualitative analysis – Dr Kim Peters, Professor Michelle Ryan and Professor David Greatbatch - to produce four themed reports from the survey:
