Increasing social presence and cognitive presence through module redesign - HEA Annual Conference 2017 - Generation TEF: Teaching in the spotlight

This small project involved using student feedback to redesign a Level 4 module. The aim was to promote a greater sense of student engagement and participation and to provide a challenging learning and teaching experience. The study was undertaken at London Metropolitan University which prides itself on attracting students from widening participation disadvantaged backgrounds. It meets the expectations of the ‘Generation TEF’: Teaching Excellence Framework in many ways. The resultant redesign rebalanced the amount of teacher presence (content/lecture) with social (sense of community) and cognitive (student effort) to improve the teaching quality and promote positive outcomes for all students.
