Intercultural communication in Higher Education through reflective dialogue

A presentation from the TIS International Conference - Internationalisation of Pedagogy and Curriculum in Higher Education: Exploring New Frontiers June 2011.

Much has been written on intercultural communication and yet lecturers tutors and supervisors of international students continue to experience moments of communicative despair.

This workshop aims at exploring 'reflective dialogue' as a method of intercultural communication in Higher Education. Its objectives are to raise awareness of the issues behind (some of) the communication problems between tutors and international students to introduce the concept of 'reflective dialogue' and to examine practical tools associated with it. By the end of the workshop participants will be able to review their past experiences of difficulties in intercultural communication and confront new such situations with the concept of 'reflective dialogue' and its associated techniques.
