This presentation is aimed mainly at supporting tutors. It covers the key challenges in providing useful feedback from tutor to student and focuses on written feedback, a very common feedback mechanism. The paper argues for the adoption of a protocol - T(ell) E(xplain) D(escribe) M(odel) - to enable tutors to provide useful feedback based on the findings of a funded staff-student project which explored the kind of feedback students would find valuable.
