While the professionalisation of university teaching is seen as increasingly significant in promoting student learning the development of teaching excellence among lecturers goes beyond acquiring technical skills and extends to the formation of a teaching identity. This presentation reports on a project exploring the development of this identity among participants on a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. Through analysis of participants’ reflective narratives reflective logs and interviews emerging themes are identified which have practical implications for the ways in which staff from different disciplines can be supported by their School or institution in the formation of a confident teaching identity.
