Newcastle Business School (Northumbria University) presentation delivered at the June 2010 Higher Education Academy Annual Conference.
The presentation presents findings informing the key area of engaging the student in learning through investigating the impact of use of language on the international students' understanding of the assessment brief. Within the latter and the field of business and management research on the use of language in the design and development of an assignment brief an area presenting particular challenges in engaging international students is weak. Informed by the authors' own publications and established literature within the field the paper will inform the key area of how the language used in the design and development of assessment can impact on student accessibility engagement and understanding of a task.
