How can we help students make the transition from sixth form to university incorporating their different standards and expectations into our pedagogical methods? Students frequently come to university wanting to know the ‘right answers’ asking how to ‘get a good essay mark’ without understanding nuanced argument. Some universities allocate this challenging year group to PhD candidates and teaching assistants instead of more experienced colleagues. The objective of this session is to discuss an effective and inclusive way for developing critically reflective thinking amongst these increasingly diverse groups in a way that closes the gulf and improves writing skills without writing.
