Moving Towards Student Authored Summative Assessment - A Step too Far?

STEM Annual Conference 2012: Proceedings - ISBN 978-1-907207-45-7

Student authored assessments are relatively common place in formative assessment but are much less frequently used for summative assessment. This technique promotes student engagement with the assessment process. Available technologies overcome many of the logistical challenges but are reliable valid and relevant assessments produced as a result?

The session will promote discussion and debate regarding student authored summative assessment and aims to address the problems regarding the validity and fairness of these types of assessment. We will draw on evidence from and the experiences of the School of Biosciences at Cardiff University.
