Multiple Choice Questions in Stats Revisited

A previous article described some investigative work developing a bank of multiple choice questions (MCQs) about Statistics in WebCT for first year Sport Science students. The students described what they liked and disliked about the style of the MCQs. They were derived by action research where similar to prototyping in computer system development the customer was heavily involved in the design of the product. Hence although the findings seemed generic there was no evidence that they would transfer to a different student group. In fact it was not even obvious that the extracted principles would apply to a different first year cohort on that course. The aim of this piece of work was therefore to test the validity of the findings on a different independent group of students.
