The current worldwide state of economic instability forces students to ask themselves the following question: Which degree provides the most security for my future? Some might answer "A degree in medicine" as demand for health-care is universal constant. Others might insist that a degree in education is the safest route given the government's support for this profession. Yet these "safe" degrees lack flexibility; a redundant dentist has no option but to seek employment in dentistry or to retrain in another discipline.
