Innovation paper
Delivery of safe compassionate and dignified care is based on a mutual relationship between individuals where openness honesty trust and respect are essential components (Reed 2011). A number of recent reports indicate this isn't always the reality for some patients and their families (Abraham 2011; Francis 2013). The standards of proficiency for registered nurses (NMC 2017) state that the ability to communicate with sensitivity and compassion is central to person-centered care. Working in simulation with the assistance of service users and with simulated patients as the patient/relative advocate we have created meaningful scenario-based learning for undergraduate nurses.
