THE PATH TO PRODUCTIVITY: The progress of Work-Based Learning

This research project focused on assessing the level and type of WBL activities in engineering and technology departments in higher education institutions in England. Ultimately the aim of this study is enhance the capability and capacity of engineering and technology departments to deliver innovative WBL solutions to support the national agenda.

The report includes evidence from questionnaires completed by higher education engineering departments as well as in depth studies of 12 universities where work based learning is offered. It discusses the findings of two focus groups and includes a number of best practice case studies. It concludes by making a number of recommendations to improve employer engagement develop better quality assurance and provide better support to learners and employers.
