Rage against the machine? The views of academic staff towards the National Student Survey

This presentation presents the findings from a survey of academic staff that explores views and opinions about the NSS and its use as a tool for improving teaching and learning. The questionnaire was completed by 324 academic staff from twelve institutions across three disciplinary areas Education History and Physics. Academics were asked to describe the way that their institutions use the NSS as well as the way it is used within their individual department. Respondents were also asked to complete a number of Likert scale items where respondents indicated their level of agreement with statements relating to the NSS for example 'The NSS provides useful information to help me improve my teaching' and 'I think that my own teaching has improved as a result of making changes informed by NSS data'.
