In this interactive breakout session I will present the context of my research where students are partners at every stage of the research process. I will then demonstrate in practice how reflective processes can be deepened with the help of artefacts and metaphors. Delegates will be using Lego© and other artefacts to express their learning experiences in an abstract metaphorical way. The subsequent discussion will consider: the processes of reflection and meaning-making using artefacts and metaphors; the benefits and potential pitfalls when using metaphors and artefacts; and the advantages and challenges of close research collaboration between staff and students.
