Following my recent article in MSOR Connections on Mathematics Support and New Technologies the Maths Stats & OR Network (MSOR Network) asked me to represent them at the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) Conference on Next Generation Environments held at Aston Business School Birmingham on 27th April 2007 and to write a report for MSOR Connections. Due to constraints of length I have not been able to provide a full report on the conference here but this is available from the sigma website Instead I highlight a number of models and ways of working which I believe are useful for understanding current and future uses of technology in UK Higher Education (HE).
The Conference combined the communication of ideas about the future uses of technology in UK HE with strategies for managing and implementing the transition to these new ways of working. It provided a wide spectrum of speakers and presentations.
