Research environment for international research students

A presentation from the HEA Annual Conference 2013.

This paper presents the findings of a HEA-funded empirical study which adopts a participatory research approach on the extent to which various different research environments in a research intensive university meet international postgraduate research (PGR) students’ expectations and needs. Based on these findings a methodology will be recommended which is applicable to other institutions wishing to evaluate their research environments as well as recommendations for best practice for ensuring research environments are suitable for international PGRs. This study will help UK Higher Education Institutions improve existing practice and secure UK’s leading position in the increasingly competitive global education market.
