UMIST is a university situated in central Manchester specialising in the areas of science engineering technology and management. It is perhaps in the Engineering disciplines that UMIST is most prestigious with prominent departments of Chemical Engineering Civil and Construction Engineering Electrical Engineering and Electronics Mechanical Aerospace and Manufacturing Engineering as well as various systems engineering courses within the department of Computation. Many of these departments gained a 5 or 5* rating in the last RAE exercise and points totals of 22 or higher in the QAA exercises. These departments receive service teaching from the department of mathematics (around 30 lecturing staff 4-4-5 rating in the RAE exercise 22 points in QAA exercise).
