A study of the use of the National Student Survey to enhance the Student Experience in Education Departments

Students' satisfaction with their higher education experience and particularly the quality of teaching and learning that they encounter are increasingly high on the agenda for Education departments to consider.

This trend looks likely to continue with the publication of the Browne Review (Browne 2010) recommending that student choice be used as a driver for improving the quality of higher education. The National Student Survey (NSS) provides a national measure of students' satisfaction with their courses and is used to inform students' choices about where to study to feed in to institutions' planning and quality enhancement procedures and to provide a measure of public accountability.

The study reported here sought to explore and understand how data from the NSS is being used to enhance students' experiences in Higher Education Institution (HEI) Education departments in order to share knowledge throughout the HE Education community and identify areas where further support or research is needed.
