I taught statistics in the United States for two years at a mid-west university but in September 2003 I returned to the UK to take up a university position teaching statistics. In this note I draw attention to the general US teaching practice of complete adoption of commercially available textbooks used together with a linked array of associated teaching and learning material. This compares with the more usual UK practice of individual teachers writing their own notes and making them available through sales and/or the Internet.
