Tutoring for mass professional education

This case study describes how a distance-learning organisation has radically changed its provision through its implementation of a 'learning pools' pedagogy for a graduate conversion course. We describe how personalised tutoring in the form of the online participation of external tutors drawn from academia and practice around the world is key to its successful delivery. The case highlights the challenges and benefits faced; examines how technology has enabled the effective mentoring of students and describes the necessary change in the tutor's role required.
