This workshop Guide provides a framework for facilitated discussion aimed at developing deeper conceptual understanding of the process of external examining. The Guide is intended for those who are responsible for professional development within institutions or Academy Subject Centres. It could be used within an institution's own induction programme for newly appointed external examiners or within an institutions programme for the professional development of teachers who would like to become an external examiner. Such discussions are more likely to be effective if they include experienced external examiners.
