University Rewards for Teaching: Comparing Promotion Criteria in UK Universities

This paper categorises promotion criteria across UK universities and compares the extent to which they treat teaching and research as equal. The results show a widespread parity in the formal criteria for senior and principal lecturers. However readerships remain tied to research and most universities formally privilege research over teaching.
